From the 30th April till 4th May, 2018, the Conventual Franciscan Friars of St. Bonaventure Province (Mid-west USA, and Australia) met in Chicago for their Provincial Chapter. Held every four years, the Provincial Chapter is a time for the friars of the province to come together over two sessions to share reports on our various ministries, including parishes and shrines; to discuss potential changes or possibilities for growth; to decide on placement of friars around the province, or order; and just as importantly, to share in fraternity and social time with one another.
One of the highlights of the chapter is when the friars vote for the Minister Provincial, and his definitory (like a council), who will lead and guide the province for the next four years. We are very delighted and proud to announce that our Fr. Benedict Maria La Volpe OFM Conv., current parish priest of St. Joseph's, Springvale VIC, has been elected to the definitory of the province. This will mean that he will reside in the United States to fully participate in the organisation of the province, though details on changes and movements are still to be announced.
We congratulate Fr. Benedict on this great honour and responsibility, and wish him every blessing as he takes up this new post.
Below are some pictures from the first session of chapter (Second session will be held in a few weeks time).
